from Ben Holsopple -
College: I went to Shippensburg University (then State College), where I graduated in 1973 with a degree in math. I met my wife, Linda, there my freshman year, although we did not start dating until our senior year. Linda was from North Versailles, PA, which is about 30 minutes east of Pittsburgh.
Family: Linda and I got married in 1974 and settled in North Huntingdon, PA, where we still reside. We just celebrated our 35th anniversary in July. Linda is the principal at Queen of Angels Catholic School in Irwin. We have a daughter, Carrie, 30, who lives in Yorba Linda, CA (near Anaheim) with her husband, Mike. (They both met and graduated from Shippensburg also!) We also have a son, Jared, 27, who lives near Buffalo, NY.
Career: When I graduated from college, I taught math in 5 different school districts in western PA, but was unable to land a permanent position, so I ended up leaving teaching and began a long career as an industrial and quality engineer. I have worked in the automotive (VW), carbide (Newcomer Products and General Carbide), transportation (Bombardier), and currently, nuclear power (Westinghouse Electric Company) industries. It has been difficult transitioning through all of these jobs, but it has also been very interesting. I just hope that I can endure with Westinghouse for another 8 or 9 years and be able to retire from there.
Health: I have had a few health problems along the way: an aortic valve replacement in 1992, and an aortic aneurysm in 2007. But my current health is very good, and my immediate family has not had any major medical problems. (Thank God!)
Apology: Unfortunately, I cannot make the reunion. But I do want to let everyone know that my thoughts are with all of my friends from the 69 Class of NOHS and I pray that all of you may have good health and happiness in your lives!
